About Us

Chives’ mission is be an integrated member of the local community offering fresh, healthy and wholesome food options at great prices.

The Café is an outdoor eating experience focusing on bringing you: local, delicious and healthy menu choices. Chives was opened in 2009 by Lise Russell, an internationally trained and locally raised chef, determined to introduce a venue for healthy, homemade and delicious dining alternatives to the Bahamian community.

Set facing the back garden of the New Providence Community Center, Chives is an ideal venue for young children and contains open spaces for running around, several climbing gyms and playground structures and a kid’s corner reading area with children’s books, puzzles and drawing materials.

Our Food

At Chives, we serve fresh, homemade fare that is both healthy and delicious. All of our soups, sandwiches, salads and home baked good are prepared fresh daily every morning, using only the highest quality ingredients and showcasing our own Chives’ kitchen tested recipes.

Our menu changes daily to showcase the best that the seasons have to offer and we always feature: vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options.

Quality Ingredients

We’re committed to preparing our menu items with ingredients that are both good for your health and good for the environment we live in. We avoid artificial additives and chemicals such as: MSG in all of our food items. Chives Café also uses all natural meats, locally grown vegetables and fresh seafood whenever possible.

Community Investment

Supporting Local Farmers

The Bahamas is a small place and while we don’t have a large commercial farming industry on our islands, we do have the choice of supporting local farmers wherever we can. Chives believes in purchasing ingredients from Bahamian owned farms wherever possible. Most of our produce is sourced from Lucayan Tropical Produce just down the road and we also purchase fresh sprouts and herbs directly from OM Grown Greens in Hope Town, Abaco.

Contributing to the Bahamian Community

At Chives, we believe that there is great importance in Bahamian business owners giving back to the local community. We call our Community Investment Philosophy Chives CARES which includes various forms of outreach such as: in-kind donations of products and services, staff volunteerism. financial donations and customer engagement initiatives.

A Message from Lise on the Café’s Community Commitment

Lise Russell at Hands For Hunger’s 2010 Paradise Plates Event

One of the main reasons we chose the New Providence Community Centre (NPCC) as our restaurant’s home is because, every day, we get to learn from and nourish persons who strive give back to the community. In addition, we have an opportunity to work with NPCC on an ongoing basis in helping  to develop a hurricane shelter food strategy with their leadership team- an initiative that benefits and keeps safe all of the community center’s outreach and social good member partners. Being a part of this environment allows us to give back without having to leave the restaurant!

In addition, we also participate in food drives, donate excess food to Hands for Hunger’s food rescue program and take part in the organization’s annual Paradise Plates event, as well as take part in various BAARK fundraisers and awareness raising initiatives like such as bake-sales and in-store charitable specials.

“Giving is a chain event – each hot meal that is served to a person who previously had nothing inspires and enables them to do positive in their life and in lives of others!”
